Spark Stories: Assisted Living Center
When the Spark Deck made its way to an assisted living center, the room was full of curiosity and just a little hesitation. The residents gathered around the table, not sure what to expect. They drew a card from the deck. It read, “Try Something New.”
At first, that felt scary. What did “new” mean? What if they didn’t know how to do it?
But that’s the beauty of the Spark Deck. it doesn’t hand you a strict set of rules, it nudges you to explore. Together, the residents looked at a few options and made their choice as a group. Since it was the beginning of fall, they decided to paint pumpkins on glass and layer them with foil to create a stained-glass window effect.
From Uncertainty to Empowerment
That moment of choosing was powerful. What started as nervousness quickly turned into a sense of possibility. By choosing together, everyone felt more confident and excited. They weren’t just following instructions — they were shaping their creative journey together.
Creativity in Action
Brushes came out, paint colors were chosen, and pumpkins began to take shape. The foil shimmered against the glass, catching the light and adding a sparkly “stained glass” touch. The residents were delighted! Every piece was different, and every piece reflected the personality of the person who made it.
The Ripple Effect of Shared Creativity
What stood out most wasn’t just the finished projects. It was the laughter, the conversations, and the sense of connection that filled the room. Sharing creativity doesn’t just give you a pretty piece of work — it strengthens community.
When we create side by side, we cheer each other on. We share ideas, celebrate small wins, and find joy in each other’s successes. For these residents, trying something new turned into more than an art activity. It became a reminder of how creativity connects us. And how creativity is timeless.
A Spark That Spreads
This is exactly why I created the Spark Deck. One little card can open the door to new ideas, new confidence, and new connections. Because when creativity is shared, everyone’s life gets a little brighter.
Keep Sparking!
