When the Spark Deck made its way to an assisted living center, the room was full of curiosity and just a little hesitation. The residents gathered around the table, not sure what to expect. They drew a card from the deck. It read, “Try Something New.”

We live in a world where our phones are always within reach. A quick peek at the screen turns into minutes, sometimes hours, that slip away without us realizing.

Setting down the phone, even for just a short time, creates room to nurture yourself. To be present. To use your hands, your imagination, and your curiosity.

It’s easy to think we need a big block of time, the perfect setup, or the right mood to create. But creativity doesn’t actually work that way. It shows up in the little moments we give it. Even ten minutes can be enough to get something started.

Those short bursts matter. They help us shift gears, clear our heads, and keep ideas moving. Sometimes the hardest part is simply beginning, and giving yourself permission to play without pressure.
